Preparing the Hoof

The hoof is prepared for bonding in much the same way it would be for reconstruction or re-shoeing.

  1. Remove any excess dirt from the hoof using a wire brush.
  2. Sand the walls of the hoof lightly using a sanding block, disk sander or a Dremel tool.
  3. Place legs in the supplied poly sleeves to protect the skin from adhesives and solvents (See: Note on the use of poly leg sleeves).
  4. If this is the first application of the Series II shoe, clean the wall thoroughly with acetone.

Note on the use of poly leg sleeves: The leg sleeves help to protect the leg from the solvents and adhesives used during hoof reconstruction and/or the application of the Sigafoos Series™ adhesive-bonded shoes. To use these sleeves, turn them inside out so that the yellow tape liner is on the inside of the sleeve. Place the foot into the sleeve so the taped end is at the coronet. Remove the yellow liner to expose the adhesive and stick the tape to the coronet to help seal the sleeve. It is helpful to run some additional tape (adhesive or duct tape) around the coronet over the top of the sleeves.
